HAVERFORD, Pa. - After bursting onto the scene with a breakout junior campaign, Haverford catcher/infielder Abby Marquis has earned academic honors from PhillySIDA, the Philadelphia Sports Information Directors Association (PhillySIDA) announced on Thursday.

Marquis, a chemistry major from Cibola High School in Albuquerque, New Mexico, also earned inclusion on the NFCA All-Region V squad after a campaign in which she was seemingly always called upon as the offensive spark plug for a young Haverford team. She appeared in all 34 games for the Fords and provided a middle of the order power presence to help guide the squad through the CC slate. Marquis roped a program-record 20 doubles and hit a whopping .422 while slugging .696 with a pair of home runs, 25 RBI, 15 runs scored and a pair of stolen bases.

Marquis led the CC in doubles (20) and finished second in total bases (71) while logging top 10 finishes in RBI, average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage and homers. Defensively, she guided a young pitching staff behind the plate and finished fourth among conference catchers in runners caught stealing (6).

The annual team is selected through voting by the sports information offices of 30 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area who take athletic and academic accomplishments into consideration when voting. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or better.

Marquis was joined on the Academic All-Area team by Morgan Zane (Performer of the Year Award) and Emily August of Rowan, Grace Aguilar and Madison Melvin of West Chester, Mackenzie Brennan of Ursinus, Kristi DiMeo of Drexel, Megan Kern and Paige Rauch of Villanova, Abby Marquis of Haverford, and Gabrielle Simms of USciences.
