Three Earn All-Conference Designation for Softball

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College softball team had three players recognized on the All-Centennial Conference teams, the conference office announced on Wednesday afternoon. Freshman phenom Molly Kaufman was named a second-team All-Centennial Conference pick at designated player, while standout seniors Kaila Uyeda and Abby Marquis each earned an honorable mention nod for shortstop and catcher, respectively.

Kaufman picks up All-CC honors after a torrid offensive debut season. The Arlington, Va. product was one of the most feared presences in the CC, slashing a .306/.330/.376 line with 26 hits, four doubles, and a home run, driving in 13 runs on the season. In early season action, Kaufman went 4-4 with a double, a triple, and three RBI in a win over Cabrini on March 16. In Conference play, she added a two-hit day against McDaniel on April 1, driving in a pair of runs, and roped an RBI double against Dickinson on April 16.

Marquis, of Albuquerque, N.M. left an indelible mark on the softball program in just two full seasons, as she will graduate Saturday holding the title of one of the best players in program history after another All-Conference campaign. Marquis, a National Player of the Year watchlist candidate, obliterated many of Haverford  offensive records this season as she is the career leader in slugging percentage (.715) and single-season slugging (.778) while also holding the single-season marks for RBI (42), doubles (20), home runs (8), and total bases (91). This season, she tops the CC in home runs, RBI, slugigng percentage and total bases while ranking in the top 10 for doubles, triples and sacrifice flies.

Uyeda, of San Diego, Calif, adds an All-Conference nod after earning CC Gold Glove of the Year a season ago. Routinely called upon as the shortstop and a captain for the Fords, she appeared in all 38 games for the Fords, logging 41 hits, six doubles, 16 RBI and stealing 15 bases with just one unsuccessful attempt. She slashed a .331/.376/.379 line and was in the top 10 in the conference in steals and runs scored. She paced the CC defensively with a program-record 119 assists against just 9 errors. She turned four double plays on the season, anchoring the middle infield.

Each Centennial Conference member institution nominates one student-athlete who exemplifies the best in sportsmanship for the All-Sportsmanship Team. Sophomore Abby Olivier was the pick for the Fords as the Flower Mound, Texas product appeared in 21 contests, mainly as a pinch runner and defensive replacement, scoring seven runs, earning a hit and a walk while stealing a base.

McDaniel leads all teams with 64 All-Centennial first-team selections, followed by Ursinus (58), Gettysburg (58), Muhlenberg (41), Washington College (34), Dickinson (29), Haverford (27),  Franklin & Marshall (23) and Swarthmore (15).
