Second-half rally not enough in loss to Bears

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team staged a second-half rally against host Ursinus College in Centennial Conference action Wednesday night but couldn't complete the comeback as the Bears eventually broke away for a 66-55 victory over the visiting Fords.

Haverford (3-4, 1-2 CC) trailed 35-21 at the intermission but over the first 10 minutes of the second half cut the Bears' lead to just seven after a pair of successful free throws by Victoria Sobocinski made the score 47-40.

Ursinus (5-2, 3-2 CC) reeled off an 8-0 run to halt the Fords' rally then maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Haverford shot 38 percent from the field out shooting the hosts who hit 35 percent of their shots including just 1-of-12 (8%) from behind the three-point arc.

The hosts out rebounded the Fords, though, by a 48-34 margin and forced the visitors into five more turnovers. Ursinus scored 20 points off the Haverford miscues and scored more than half of their points, 34, from within the paint.

Nina Voith led Haverford offensively with a 15 point night and added six rebounds. Sobocinski scored 12 and pulled down four rebounds while Sara Cram had a team-high seven boards in the loss.

Five Bears scored in double-figures for Ursinus led by the 15 points from Lindsay Teuber who also notched a double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Fords will try to get back on the winning track in their next outing, a conference contest Saturday at 1 p.m. against Dickinson College in Gooding Arena at Haverford.
