Bullets get past women’s basketball, 59-50

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team lost to host Gettysburg College, 59-50, at Bream Gymnasium Thursday evening. The two teams combined for 49 turnovers and neither team shot better than 32 percent from the field.

Haverford (2-3, 1-2 CC) was led by Nina Voith's 22 points, but she was the only Ford to score in double figures. Dominique Meeks filled the box score with eight points, seven steals, six rebounds and two blocked shots.

Caitlin Moser scored a team-high 14 points for Gettysburg (5-0, 2-0 CC). Lisa Ridgeway added 11 points and Sara Kinsley swiped 10 boards.

The Bullets led the entire game and held a 10-point advantage in the first half with under five minutes to go thanks to an 8-0 run. Haverford trailed 25-23 after a Voith free throw, but a jumper by Lauren Dadigan sparked Gettysburg's run. A three by Liz Mayell in the final minute cut the deficit to 36-28 at the half.

Gettysburg went ahead by 10 points on two free throws by Julie McGrory just over three minutes into the second half, and then a funny thing happened as neither team scored over the next three minutes until a Voith layup broke the stalemate. The Fords got as close as six with 8:31 remaining, but that would be as close as Haverford could get.

The Fords will host Penn State-Brandywine in a non-conference game Saturday at 6 p.m.
