Women’s basketball evens up in conference with 64-22 win over Owls

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's basketball team improved to 2-2 in the Centennial Conference with its 64-22 victory over Bryn Mawr College Saturday afternoon at Gooding Arena. The Fords received points from 12 different players including 27 bench points.

Nina Voith led the way with 13 points – all in the first half. Dominique Meeks also tallied all seven of her points in the opening 20 minutes. Cara Wyant reached season-highs with eight points and 12 rebounds. Calla Miller filled the box score with seven points, four assists and three steals.

Meeks scored the first six points of the game and seven of the first 12 to help Haverford (4-3, 2-2 CC) to a 12-4 lead. The Fords heated up just past the 15-minute mark by embarking on a 16-3 run that spanned nearly nine minutes. The run was capped off with buckets on four straight possessions, making the score 27-7 with 5:23 remaining.

The Fords were not done yet as they closed the half on a 9-0 run. Wyant made a pair of layups, Fern Beetle-Moorcroft hit a three and Hope Rainey connected on a layup with four seconds left, giving HC a 37-12 lead at the break.

Haverford scored the first eight points of the second half thanks to a three-pointer and layup by Victoria Sobocinski. The Fords saw their lead hover around 40 for most of the half thanks to the contributions of the bench. Mary Hobbs totaled five points while Rainey, Beetle-Moorcroft, Wyant, Meaghan Ryan and Alejandra Alvarez all scored two points apiece.

Nicolette Parmese led Bryn Mawr (0-6, 0-4) with nine points and went 3-for-4 from the foul line. Rudi Vanzin grabbed a team-high seven boards for the Owls.

The Fords hit the road Wednesday to take on Ursinus College at 6 p.m.
