Haverford women's basketball advances to Wheaton Tip-Off championship game with win

NORTON, Mass. – The Haverford women's basketball team picked up their second consecutive victory in a 60-56 win over Drew University in the Wheaton Tip-Off Tournament on Nov. 19.

The Fords improve their record to 2-0; while Drew records a 1-1 overall tally. 

Haverford sophomore guard Rachel Baskin led all scorers with 14 points, along with six rebounds.  Drew was led by both Victoria Ault and Danielle Barber who chipped in 13 points apiece.

Tied at 19 all in the first half, Haverford junior Calla Miller knocked down a trey to give the Fords a lead they would hold into the half.  Miller recorded six points and six boards on the night. The Fords reached their largest first half lead with just over a minute remaining (26-19) and stayed up 28-22 at halftime.

In round two, the Fords never looked back- leading by as many as 15 points (43-28) at 11:54.  Haverford freshman guard Elizabeth Lynch, who tallied 12 points, five boards and two blocks, added four of her ticks in the second stanza to keep her squad ahead.  Also contributing to the Ford offensive was junior forward Dominique Meeks, whose seven rebounds was a team-high (she added 12 points).

Overall the Haverford hoop group shot 41 percent from field goal range, as the squad stayed ahead to win their second straight 60-56 and advance to the tournament championship game on Nov. 20 at 4 p.m. against host Wheaton College.
