Haverford takes down Bryn Mawr

Haverford takes down Bryn Mawr

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Dominique Meeks and Victoria Sobocinski combined for 26 points to lead the Haverford College women's basketball team to a 46-32 Centennial Conference victory over Bryn Mawr College Monday night.

The Fords (16-6, 11-6 CC) completed the season sweep over the Owls (0-20, 0-15) while capturing their third win in a row.

Haverford dug deep to overcome a slow start in the contest as it hit just three of its first 11 shots from the field. The score was deadlocked at 8-8 with just over nine minutes to go in the first half when the Fords found their range and scored 16 of the last 19 points of the half. Calla Miller's jumper with five seconds left on the clock sent Haverford to the locker room with a 24-11 advantage.

The Fords' defense hung tough, despite their early shooting woes, to hold Bryn Mawr to just three field goals and 15 percent shooting from the field in the first 20 minutes.

Haverford came out firing on all cylinders after intermission as it opened the second half with a 16-4 run, spearheaded by the tandem of Meeks and Sobocinski, that spanned almost 11 minutes. Meeks tallied six points and Sobocinski struck for 10 points, including two three pointers, to account for all of the scoring during the Fords' surge which put the score at 40-15 with 9:18 on the clock. Haverford managed to keep the Owls at a distance over the remainder of the game to secure the victory.

Meeks, the Fords' leading scorer for the second straight game, finished with 14 while also leading the Haverford effort on the glass with seven rebounds. Sobocinski hit for 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting and Jacquelyne Pizzuto chipped in with eight. Miller led the Fords with four assists.

Nicolette Parmese paced the Owls with 16 points and seven rebounds.

Haverford, looking to continue its' winning ways, heads to Ursinus on Wednesday night for a crucial conference clash with the Bears. Game time is set for 6 p.m.
