HAVERFORD, Pa. – Last month, the Cancer Sucks! Club at Haverford College hosted a three on three basketball tournament at the Gooding '84 Arena. Partnering with Bringing Hope Home, a local non-profit organization. The tournament raised over $500.

The Cancer Sucks! club was founded and is currently run by seniors Pallavi Juneja and Louisa Eckman. Its mission is three-fold; to raise awareness and funds for local families affected by cancer, to register students for the National Bone Marrow Registry, and to provide a safe space on campus for all persons affected or touched by cancer.

Bringing Hope Home is a non-profit organization that provides to local families with cancer through financial and emotional support. Through its Light of Hope Family Grant Program, the organization offers a one-time grant to pay essential household bills for families with cancer in the greater Philadelphia area. Since its inception in 2008, Bringing Hope Home has paid over $2.2 million dollars in essential household bills for over 2,000 local families with cancer.

The tournament had 21 teams and 79 players total. "We were so excited and proud of our fellow Black Squirrels for their willingness to participate and lend their athleticism to a good cause," said Juneja. "The three on three was competitive, it was fun, and it was for all the right reasons."

Coming up this month, the Cancer Sucks! club will again partner with Bringing Hope Home to raise funds by selling "Squirrel Swag" tank-tops. The tank tops are to promote a white-out on April 18th for the women's lacrosse game vs. No. 3 Franklin and Marshall which marks the end of Oral, Head and Neck Cancer Awareness Week.
