Defense Leads Women's Basketball Past Cedar Crest

Haverford, Pa. – Using stifling defense that held the Cedar Crest Falcons to just nine made baskets, the Haverford College women's basketball team picked up a 62-26 non-conference victory at the Gooding '84 Arena on Monday night.

Haverford held Cedar Crest to 20.5 percent from the floor (9-of-44). The Fords scored 18 points off of 15 Falcons turnovers. The home team swiped seven passes and out-rebounded its opponent 42-29. Freshman Macy Goldbach shot a stellar 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) for a season-high 16 points. The freshman also added a team-high five assists, grabbed four rebounds and had two steals. Sophomore Emily Anderson made all six of her shot attempts for a career-best 12 points and had four rebounds in the win. Ten different Fords scored in the contest.

After a three-pointer by the Falcons gave the visitors a 5-3 lead 90 seconds into the game, Goldbach answered with basket from beyond the arc to give the Fords the lead for good. Haverford ended the first quarter on a 17-3 run to take a 20-8 advantage. Head coach Bobbi Morgan's team expanded its lead by outscoring Cedar Crest, 14-2 in the second stanza to take a 34-10 lead in the locker room. Another outstanding defensive effort by Haverford held Cedar Crest to 16 points in the final two frames as the Fords took the game, 62-26.

With the win, the women's basketball team improved its record to 4-3 overall while Cedar Crest dropped to 0-10 on the season. Haverford has one final contest in 2015 with battle at Bryn Mawr on Thursday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
