BALTIMORE – The Haverford College women's basketball team stumbled on the road against Johns Hopkins in a Centennial Conference game Tuesday at Goldfarb Gymnasium. The Fords fell behind by 10 points after the first quarter and never fully recovered during a 52-35 defeat down in Baltimore. Johns Hopkins had won five of its last six home games entering the contest.

The Blue Jays (11-12, 8-8 CC) used stellar defense and hot shooting hands to take an early lead. Led by Liz Tommasi's 14 points and four players scoring six or more, they used a balanced scoring attack to hold that lead throughout the game despite the Fords' steady play.

Haverford (14-10, 9-8 CC) was paced by Sierra Berkel who scored 13 points and pulled down six rebounds. She also went a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line on the night, contributing to the Fords' impressive 11-for-13 team free throw shooting total.

Berkel did most of her damage in leading the Fords' comeback attempt between the second and third quarters, scoring a combined nine points in the two frames. Her layup in the beginning of the fourth quarter brought the deficit down to ten, the lowest it had been since the first quarter.

Samantha Wetzel turned another impressive performance on the glass, bringing down 12 rebounds in the contest. She now has double-digit boards in each of her last four games. The sophomore center also blocked three shots. Wetzel currently stands third in the conference in blocks per game, averaging 2.8.

The Fords will wrap up the regular season at Swarthmore on Saturday. That game is scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. tip with the men scheduled to follow at 3 p.m.
