Berkel Named to All-CC Second Team, Wetzel Honorable Mention

Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sophomore Sierra Berkel of the Haverford College women's basketball team was named to the All-Centennial Conference second team while her teammate, Samantha Wetzel, was named an honorable mention. Both players were also recognized on the academic honor roll.

The team's leading scorer and rebounder, Berkel averaged 11.1 points per game this season. A highly efficient offensive player, she shot 49.8 percent from the field (first on the team, third in the Centennial Conference) and 72.7 percent from the line. Her 8.6 rebounds per game ranked fifth in the conference.

In the last game of the regular season, Berkel tied her career high with 19 points to lead the Fords to a three point triumph over Swarthmore in a crucial win that allowed the team to qualify for the Centennial Conference Tournament. The senior also collected seven double-doubles in the season, including an 11 point, 10 rebound effort in the first round of the conference playoffs.

Wetzel was among the Centennial's best shot blockers, swatting 2.8 per game (third in the CC). She blocked five or more shots in eight games. Wetzel was also one of Haverford's top offensive threats, scoring 9.5 points per game including 14 games in double digit points.

The Haverford sophomore's best game came in a win over Gettsysburg when she scored 22 points, pulled down nine rebounds, and dished out six assists.

With the talented youth on head coach Bobbi Morgan's team, the Fords have a lot to look forward to in the coming seasons. Next year, Haverford will vie for its sixth consecutive Centennial Conference Tournament appearance.
