Landau Shines, Women’s Basketball Downs Immaculata, 62-48

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College Women's basketball team (2-0) kept its momentum going on Tuesday, taking down the Mighty Macs (1-2) of Immaculata by a score of 62-48. The Fords were lifted by a stellar night from senior guard Ally Landau, who put up 31 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists. The Scarlet and Black quickly got on the board in the first quarter, with a 7-3 scoring run that included a three-pointer and layup from Landau. Immaculata came climbing back with a 7-4 scoring run that saw Abigail Lentowski contribute with four points in the stretch.

Leading only 11-10, the Fords closed out the first quarter with a 8-2 scoring run that was highlighted by four different scorers, as Landau, Abby Ryan, Shae Mercer, and Siena Emuobor all found nylon to give Haverford a 19-12 lead.The Fords kept their food on the pedal, going on a 12-2 scoring run to start the second quarter. Landau hit two three pointers, and Emuobor provided four points in the 12-point stretch to increase Haverford lead to 31-14.

The next five-and-a-half minutes witnessed a 13-6 run by the Mighty Macs, led by four points from Lentowski, and a trey from Tessa Liberatoscioli. To boost the Haverford energy heading into half, Landau sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to give the Fords a 40-27 lead. At halftime, Landau led all scorers with 22, and all rebounders with 9. The Scarlet and Black dazzled in the first half, as they carried a 44.7 shooting percentage and a 24-21 rebound advantage into the locker room.

For the first seven minutes of the second half, the Fords boosted their lead with a 14-6 scoring stretch. Landau dropped seven points in that run, while Gia Flamini buried a three-pointer in the stretch  to help the Scarlet and Black go up by 21 points, 54-33. Another basket by Lentowski, and a triple from Morgan Falcone, trimmed the Immaculata deficit to 54-38 at the end of the third quarter. 

The Mighty Macs put together a 10-4 scoring run in the first seven minutes of the fourth quarter to cut Haverford's lead down to just 10, 58-48. The run featured four different scorers for Immaculata, with Lentowski aiding the scoring stretch, pouring in four points. However, time was not on the Mighty Macs' side, as points in the waning moments from Emuobor and Flamini sealed the deal for the Fords, as the Scarlet and Black won 62-48.

Landau ended the contest with a substantial scoring line of 31 (points), 12 (rebounds), and five (assists). Emuobor was the second-leading scorer for the Fords, as the junior forward totaled a career-best 14 points. The efforts by Ryan did not go unnoticed either, as the sophomore led Haverford in assists with seven, and brought down nine boards. Immaculata was paced by Lentowski who finished the contest 16 points and eight rebounds. She was not the only double digit scorer for the Mighty Macs as Falcone also ended the game with 10 points. 

Fans can catch the Haverford women's basketball team back in Gooding '84 Arena a week from today, as they host the Owls of Bryn Mawr at 6 p.m. The matchup will serve as a prelude to the Haverford men taking on Washington College, with tip-off slated for 8 p.m.
