GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico - The Haverford College women's basketball team (3-6) faced a setback against Carroll (Wis.) (9-3) on the first day of its participation in the Puerto Rico Clasico, concluding the day with a 74-38 defeat at Coliseo Mario Morales Friday afternoon. Carroll, located in Waukesha, Wisconsin, competes in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW). The contest was the first in history between the two programs.

Carroll's Pioneers contained the Fords, in part due to a stingy defensive effort, limiting Haverford to just 25 percent shooting. Carroll dominated with a 44-12 lead in points in the paint, shooting 46.2 percent from the field, and committing only eight turnovers.

Leading the Fords was Audrey Jakway, contributing 10 points and seven rebounds to the ledger. Ally Landau also had a strong performance in her return to the floor, tallying seven points and seven rebounds in a reserve role. Siena Emuobor grabbed a game-best 10 rebounds, and Gia Flamini chipped in with nine points.

Jakway managed to narrow the Pioneers' lead to just four at 14-10 with a triple 2:31 minutes left in the opening quarter. However, from that point, Carroll responded with a 10-0 run, taking a 24-10 lead into the second quarter.

Although Sophie Baker halted the run with a mid-range jumper, the Pioneers maintained their momentum, establishing a 33-12 advantage. A trio of free throws and a Landau three-pointer 15 seconds before time expired in the first half reduced the deficit to 16 at halftime.

Carroll opened the second half with a 7-0 run, momentarily interrupted by another triple from Jakway. However, the Pioneers proved too formidable for Haverford in the third quarter. A Ryann Wendt three-pointer gave the Pioneers a 31-point cushion, firmly in control with 1:34 left in the penultimate frame. Carroll outscored Haverford 40-20 in the second half.

The Fords now face a quick turnaround, returning to action tomorrow to conclude their time on the Island of Enchantment with an 11 a.m. ET matchup against Mary Washington. The contest will be streamed live.
