CHESTERTOWN, Md. - The Haverford College women's basketball team (6-14, 3-12 CC) suffered a defeat against host Washington College (9-10, 6-8 CC) at Cain Athletic Center on Wednesday evening. The Shorewomen secured the season series with a 63-45 victory over the Fords.

Siena Emuobor led the Fords with 11 points, seven rebounds, and four blocks, showcasing an impressive performance on both ends of the court. Shae Mercer and Audrey Jakway contributed with strong offensive outputs, each scoring 10 points, while Gia Flamini added eight points and four assists for Haverford.

Serena Pluta dominated for Washington, scoring a game-best 24 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field and adding seven rebounds. Kaitlyn Boggs was the only other Shorewomen player in double figures, contributing 10 points and a pair of blocks.

Haverford initially led 10-8 after the first quarter, thanks to Jakway's strong performance, including two three-pointers. Emuobor added a pair of buckets, and the Fords held Washington to just a 22 percent shooting clip in the opening frame.

In the second quarter, Washington College began to turn the tide after Mercer's three-pointer with 6:17 left in the half. Despite Haverford grabbing a 19-16 lead at that point, Washington College closed the half on a 7-0 run, heading to the locker room up by five.

Although Mercer and Emuobor connected to start the third, a 16-2 run helped the Shorewomen pull away. Flamini's three-pointer ended the run with just two minutes left in the third, but Washington College entered the fourth quarter with a commanding 14-point lead, shooting 46.7 percent in the stanza.

Jakway, dealing with foul trouble, sat out the fourth quarter. Mercer and Abby Ryan played key roles in the Haverford offense, bringing the visitors within 11. Mercer added a key jumper and a three-pointer with just over a minute left, but Washington College secured the rebounding advantage down the stretch while converting 6-of-8 from the charity stripe to hang on.

The Fords out-rebounded the Shorewomen 35 to 31, but Washington College narrowly edged Haverford 37.7 percent to 37.5 percent in field goal percentage. Ball control played a significant role, with the Fords committing 22 turnovers to just nine for the hosts.

Women's Basketball returns to action on Saturday for Senior Day at Gooding '84 Arena against No. 25 Gettysburg. Prior to the 1 p.m. tip-off with the Bullets, Haverford will honor seniors Erin Albright, Gia Flamini, Annabel Flint, and Ally Landau in a pregame ceremony.
