HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team scored the first five goals of the contest Wednesday night on its way to a 19-11 victory over visiting Muhlenberg College in Centennial Conference play at Swan Field.
The Fords (8-2, 2-1 CC) dominated the opening 15 minutes of the game with five goals on 11 shots. Hannah Morgan tallied her 19th of the season off a feed from Kenny Likes at 25:17 and Haverford was just getting started as Christina Gould followed with two straight in the next three minutes. Diana Perry's 30th of the season off a free position shot continued the opening surge that was capped by Gould's third goal of the opening half at 15:44.
Stephanie Umbach got the Mules (5-4, 0-3) on the scoreboard at the 15-minute mark but Perry answered right back to restore the Fords' five-goal advantage at 6-1. Muhlenberg crept within four once more with 11 minutes to go until the break but Megan Gallagher deposited her first of four on the night at 7:13 to keep the Mules at a distance.
Haverford kept the pressure on and after Ally Shaffer brought Muhlenberg within four one final time, the Fords closed the half with three unanswered goals from Amanda Fleming, Morgan and Gallagher to push out to a 10-3 lead at intermission.
Picking right back up where it left off, Haverford tallied the first three goals of the second half to move in front by 10 goals, 13-3. The Fords enjoyed a 10-goal cushion four times in the final 30 minutes while receiving goals from six different players.
Perry finished with four goals and one assist for the second straight game while Gallagher matched her season high with four goals of her own. Gould chipped in with a three-goal, two-assist performance and Morgan added three goals and one assist. Registering a season-high five points, Likes contributed two goals and three assists and a career-high eight draw controls while Amanda Fleming notched the second two-goal game of her career. Dayna Kim accounted for the final goal with her eighth of the season in the final minute of the contest.
Matching her season high with 12 saves, goalie Shannon Horn (7-2) earned the win for the hosts.
Giving up 10 goals while making five saves in the first half, Tiffany Kreider (5-4) took the loss for the Mules. Kiersten Mulvey registered one save over the final 30 minutes in relief.
Haverford has already registered over 15 goals in three games this season after reaching that mark just twice in 2012.
The Fords get back into action on Saturday when they travel to Dickinson College to meet the Red Devils at 3 p.m. Dickinson and Haverford are two of four Centennial teams that currently have a 2-1 record in conference play this season.
