Gould scores 3 in Fords' conference opener against #5 Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Christina Gould matched her career high with three goals but the visiting Haverford College women's lacrosse team fell 17-6 to fifth-ranked Gettysburg College in the Centennial Conference opener for both clubs Saturday afternoon at Clark Field.

After the defending conference champion Bullets (5-1, 1-0 CC) opened the scoring in the game's first minute, junior Diana Perry got the Fords (4-3, 1-1) on the scoreboard with her 17th of the season less than two minutes later.

Gettysburg went on to score the contest's next five goals but Haverford quickly responded with a surge of its own. Senior Megan Gallagher scored the first of three consecutive goals by the Fords on a successful free-position shot with 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Perry then continued the Haverford rally with her second of the game off a feed from Gallagher at the four-minute mark.

Gould's first of the day with 2:24 left on the first-half clock pulled the Fords within two (6-4) before junior Bridget Kenny extended the Bullets lead back to three in the waning seconds of the opening stanza.

Haverford eyed a comeback after the break but Gettysburg outscored the visitors 10-2 in the second half. Gould (pictured) tallied both of the Fords' goals in the final 30 minutes.

Senior goalie Shannon Horn (3-2) made six saves in the loss.

Sophomore Maggie Connolly led the Bullets with a game-high four goals while freshman Shannon Keeler (4-1) earned the win in goal with six saves.

Haverford concludes the non-conference portion of its schedule on Wednesday at Rowan University. The game against the Profs (4-2) begins at 4 p.m.
