Women's Lacrosse Starts Season with 17-8 Win over Eastern

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (1-0) scored the first six goals of the game en route to a 17-8 victory over the Eastern University Eagles (0-1) at Olson Field on Saturday afternoon.

Senior Diana Perry got the scoring started just 1:26 into the contest on an assist from senior Dayna Kim. Perry would finish with a game-high five goals. Sophomore Maura Grant got on the board just a minute later to make the score 2-0 Haverford. Perry's third goal of the contest would make the score 6-0 at the 15:02 mark of the first half. Eastern rallied to get within four with 9:01 to go in the first half, but the Fords ended the first stanza with a four goal outburst to head into halftime with a 10-2 advantage.

Eastern opened up the second half with a goal from Anna Charlebois, but Haverford answered with its 11th goal of the game from sophomore Stephanie Kirsciras about three minutes later. The Eagles got within seven on several occasions, but a three goal push by the Fords ran their lead to 10 at 17-7 with just about three minutes to go in the game.

Sophomore Sarina Manetta and freshman Molly Lausten scored two goals each for the visitors. Haverford had 11 different players score in the victory. Junior Megan Chenworth picked up the win in net for the Fords. Haverford outshot Eastern 27-18, had more draw controls (17-10), and ground balls (15-8).

Anna Charlebois scored four goals for Eastern in the loss.

It's the third consecutive season opening win for head coach Lauren Wray's team. Haverford also tallied its fifth straight victory over Eastern. The women's lacrosse team will host Cabrini at Swan Field on Wednesday beginning at 4 p.m.
