WAC Scores Victory over Women's Lacrosse

CHESTERTOWN, Md. – The Washington College Shorewomen went on a 4-0 outburst in the second half to defeat the Haverford College women's lacrosse team, 8-7, at Roy Kirby Jr. Stadium on Wednesday night.

Junior Elyse Adler got the scoring started with a tally at the 25:06 mark of the first half. The home team tied the game with 16:04 to go on a goal from Catherine Stanley. Senior Diana Perry put the Fords back in front five minutes later and junior Christina Gould gave Haverford its third goal of the contest as the clock ticked under 10 minutes. Liz Godorov got the Shorewomen within one with 3:13 left. Perry added her second goal of the game with just two seconds remaining in the first stanza to put the Fords in front 4-2.

The Fords controlled the pace in the first 30 minutes of game action, outshooting the Shorewomen 15-6 and causing 10 turnovers. Haverford picked up 13 ground balls and held Washington College without a free position opportunity during the first half.

After a Washington College goal to open the second half, Adler and senior Hannah Morgan gave Haverford a 6-3 advantage. The two Centennial Conference foes exchanged goals to set the score at 7-4 with 15:52 to go. At the 13:36 mark, Carley Kendall cuts the Shorewomen's deficit to two. Forty seconds later, Washington College's Emily Hubley shot one past junior Megan Chenworth, making the score 7-6. Godorov recorded her second goal less than a minute later, tying the game at seven. Kendall completed Washington College's comeback with another goal with 9:52 left in the game. The Fords couldn't get a shot in the back of the net in the final 10 minutes of the contest despite having two shots hit the post and a free position chance blocked.

With her two goals, Adler has now tied her career high with 10 goals this season. Perry's two goals give her three straight years of at least 40 goals while Gould also nabbed two tallies in the contest. The Fords now have six players this season that have at least 10 goals. Chenworth made six saves in the loss.

Godorov, Hubley, and Kendall each scored twice while Haylee Solomon made 13 saves in the victory for the Shorewomen.

Head coach Lauren Wray's team dropped to 8-6 overall and 3-3 in the Centennial Conference while Washington College improved to 9-3 this year and 5-1 in conference action. The Fords will wrap up the home portion of its 2015 schedule against No. 3 Franklin and Marshall on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. It's also Senior Day as the team will honor Perry, Morgan, Margaret Perkoff, Emma Bracker, Nicole Sockett, Dayna Kim and Brianna Robbins before the contest.
