SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (1-0) started its 2016 campaign with a dramatic, late game win over the University of Scranton at Fitzpatrick Field on Saturday afternoon. Sophomore Molly Lausten scored a free position goal with four seconds left in the game to break a 10-10 tie and cap off a comeback win for the Fords, 11-10.

Lausten, who was among the Centennial Conference's leading scorers with 42 goals in her freshman season, finished with four goals on nine shots and added an assist.

The Royals (1-1) lit the lamp with a free position goal just over a minute into the contest, but Haverford quickly countered with two goals of it's own. Elyse Adler and Christina Gould each scored to give the Fords a 2-1 lead. Scranton scored four consecutive goals in just over seven minutes, giving it a 5-2 lead midway through the first half.

As would be the case all game, Haverford had answers. The Fords scored four consecutive goals of their own, including two by Lausten. The other two came off the sticks of Sarina Manetta and Maura Grant. Manetta finished the game with three ground balls, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers.

After Scranton had taken a 9-7 lead in the second half, the Fords came roaring back with three goals of their own, including Gould's third of the day, to take a 10-9 lead. The senior midfielder also finished with five ground balls and three draw controls. Scranton scored again to give the game its sixth tie of the day before Lausten's game-winner.

In net, Megan Chenworth made seven saves.

The win marked head coach Lauren Wray's fifth straight victory on Haverford's first game of the season. The Fords next game will be their home opener against No. 8 York on Saturday, March 5 at 1 p.m.
