HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's lacrosse team (3-2) came away with a 9-8 win over Wesleyan University (1-3) on Tuesday evening following three multi-goal performances by Haverford players to help take the lead and then a stellar effort in net by goaltender Megan Chenworth to hold on in a tight finish.

The Fords bullrushed out of the opening horn with six consecutive goals to start the game. Sophomore attacker Molly Lausten got things started with an unassisted goal just 48 seconds into the contest. Lausten struck again less than a minute later with a goal from a free position shot. Allie Gibbons, Elyse Adler, and Sarina Manetta joined in with the Fords' next three goals before Lausten scored her third of the day to make the score 6-0 just 12 minutes into the game. She now has a team-high 13 goals on the season.

Following a timeout, Wesleyan made some key adjustments and found itself back in the game by the end of the half.

Gibbons put an end to the Cardinals' scoring run when she netted her second goal of the evening just before the clock ran out, giving the Fords a 7-5 lead into the break.

The second half was more of a defensive chess match as only five total goals were scored between the two teams. Both schools traded scores throughout the half but Haverford never trailed. Manetta scored her second goal of the game and Annie Kelly netted her first of the season. Wesleyan made it a one goal game with three minutes to go but Haverford held on to win.

Chenworth made some outstanding saves in the game and three key stops in the second half to keep Wesleyan tamed. She finished with eight total saves on 16 shots.

The Fords will play again on Thursday as they host Eastern at 4:30 p.m. on Swan Field.
