Women's Squash Edges Georgetown, 5-4

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The No. 32 ranked Haverford women's squash team took a 5-4 win over visiting Georgetown on Saturday at the GIAC Squash Courts, prevailing at the top three spots on the ladder en route to a close victory over the visitors from Washington, D.C. 

Isabelle Gotuaco breezed past Maddy Forbess (11-3, 11-2, 11-5) at the top of the ladder while Kaitlin Reese rattled off three straight victories after falling in the first of four at the second spot. Reese defeated Brooke Miller 8-11, 11-8, 11-2, 11-4, storming back with relative ease after the initial setback. The freshman is now 7-5 on the season, the best indivdual mark on the team thus far. 

Isabel Agnew got the best of Alessandra Ruggenio after a marathon first game that saw the Haverford senior take down her opponent in extra points, 15-13. Agnew took 11-7 and 11-9 wins to seal the sweep. 

At the fourth through seven spots on the ladder, Georgetown picked up wins as Jacqueline Lavet defeated Olivia Franco in a tightly contested four games (9-11, 11-5, 12-10, 14-12) and Anna Yaas, Jamie Hopkins and Grace Alberger all posted sweeps for the Hoyas.

At the eighth spot, Sophia Jackson defeated Meghan Zorc in five games, taking down her opponent after allowing a 2-0 lead to slip away. Jackson rallied in the fifth and final game to preserve a big individual victory for Haverford (11-3, 13-11, 8-11, 7-11, 11-6).

The Hoyas were forced to default at the ninth spot on the ladder, handing Haverford a win at the final position. Haverford posted its second consecutive win over Georgetown, adding the tally to a 6-3 win in Feburary of 2016. 

The Fords will return to action on Saturday, Feburary 11, taking on Boston College (10:30 a.m.) and Bucknell (3:30 p.m.)  at the GIAC Squash Courts.  The Senior Day matches will be the last home contests for seniors Isabel Agnew and Emilia Cobbs
