HAVERFORD, Pa. - Facing off with No. 27 St. Lawrence for the first time since 2001 on Saturday, the Haverford College women's squash team (3-2) was defeated 7-2, dropping a spirited battle to the Saints (1-8) at the GIAC Squash Courts.

The Saints got out to a 3-0 lead to begin play, taking an early win at the second position as Makyla Kelley got the best of sophomore Shreya Singh. St. Lawrence also saw wins at the sixth and seventh position in the early goings, with Katie Walsh and Alexandra Limas registering sweeps over first years Maisie Smith and Caroline Smith, respectively. Maisie Smith battled Walsh to extra points in a 14-12 decision in the first game.

Senior Sophia Jackson highlighted the second round of matches for Haverford, delivering a come-from-behind win over Samantha Sambrook at the eighth position. Sambrook grabbed an 11-8 win in the first game, but Jackson was there for decisive 11-3 decisions in each of the final three contests to storm past her opponent. Sophomore Urgyen Wangmo was then defeated by Xitlali Zuniga at the fifth flight, and junior Tia Brown was dispatched by Starnisha Ramsey at the fourth flight, despite giving her opponent a scare in a back-an-forth third game that was decided in extra points at 12-10.

Senior co-captain Kaitlin Reese locked horns with Sanna Koivumaki at the top flight, falling in three before junior Hannah Adler put another tally in Haverford's ledger with a sweep of Arelis Arellano at the ninth position. Making her first appearance of the season in the top nine, Adler looked impressive in controlling the tempo against Arellano, allowing just 13 total points in the triumph.

Senior co-captain Sunny Chai was defeated by Katherine Leiva at the third position, but not before giving her opponent all sorts of headaches, taking an 11-5 victory to knot the match at one each and later sending the third and fourth games to extra points.

The Fords have now concluded College Squash Association (CSA) play for the 2019 portion of the schedule, and will return to play following the winter break with another home matchup on Friday, January 17 against No. 21 Wesleyan. Action at the GIAC Squash Courts is slated for 3 p.m.
