Squash Teams Wrap Day One at CSA Individual and U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships

PHILADELPHIA - The Haverford College squash programs were well represented on the first day of the 2024 College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships and the U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championships, as both tournaments commenced simultaneously at the Arlen Specter Center in Philadelphia on Friday morning.

In the early men's singles action, Noah Tunis faced Lewis Anderson, the top-flight player from Liberty League rival St. Lawrence, in the Round of 16 for Molloy North. Tunis was defeated in straight games, with scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.

Tunis' second match of the day was scheduled against Jared Nalliah of Chatham, but Nalliah had to default, propelling Tunis into the consolation semifinals against Daniel Deverill of Western Ontario. The matchup with the Ontario University Athletics Rookie of the Year is set for 10:50 a.m. on Court nine at the Specter Center.

In women's singles, Ariana Solecki was defeated in straight games by Marianna Dardon of Stanford (11-5, 11-4, 11-2) in the Round of 16. In consolation action, Solecki faced Emma Kate Watts-Roy of Bowdoin with the Bowdoin player advancing to the consol semis with an 11-2, 12-10, 11-6 victory.

Moving to men's doubles action, Haverford had two teams competing at the U.S. Intercollegiate Doubles Championship. Aaryaman Jaising and Qianzhi Zhao faced another St. Lawrence pairing, Logan Thomas and Oliver Bikhazi-Green. Jaising and Zhao played a stellar match, sweeping the pair 11-1, 11-7, 11-6 to advance to a matchup against Maxwell Orr and Nikhil Ismail of Yale. In that matinee, the Yale pairing secured an 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 win to advance to the round of 16.

Haverford's other men's doubles pairing of Kai Schinaman and Zadoc Bond faced Samuel Knipp and Kobe Fleming of Dickinson, with the Fords falling in four games. The Knipp-Fleming connection won an 11-7 opener, and Haverford then rallied to take an 11-9 second game. The Red Devils duo then secured 11-9 and 11-7 victories to advance in four games.

Tunis now returns for day two at the Specter Center, with his matchup scheduled for a 10:50 first serve. The winner will advance to Sunday's 9:30 a.m. consolation final. Live scoring and live video are available via the Championships Central page.
