No. 26 Women's Squash Falls to No. 22 Denison

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The 26th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (2-7) suffered a 9-0 defeat to No. 22 Denison (5-4), on day two of the Wesleyan Round Robin inside the Rosenbaum Squash Center, on the campus of Wesleyan University.

The battle with the Big Red began in the eighth flight, as Madeleine Ruggie earned the first Denison victory of the day, defeating Aman Hamdard 11-6, 11-2, 11-4, to give the Big Red a 1-0 advantage. In the sixth flight, Charlotte Sigg got past Zoe Liu 11-6, 11-3, 11-2, to extend Denison's lead to 2-0.

The Big Red claimed their third straight victory of the afternoon after Antoinette Ramsey defeated Ariana Solecki 11-8, 4-11, 11-9, 11-9 in a high-intensity four-game bout. At the ninth rung of the ladder, Markley Peters topped Matilda Chartener 11-8, 11-4, 11-7, to give Denison a 4-0 advantage.

Sweeps at the fourth flight (Tess Lanza defeated Julia Carrasco 11-1, 12-10, 11-6) and the top flight (Charlotte Jones defeated Joelle Phuah 11-4, 11-2, 11-2) clinched the contest for Denison, as they took a commanding 6-0 lead with three matches to go.

Virginia Lawrence of the Big Red bested Caroline Gay 11-4, 11-5, 11-5 in the fifth flight, while Lane Harding picked up an 11-8, 11-3, 11-4 victory over Ofri Geva in flight eight. Amelia Keng sealed the 9-0 defeat of the Fords in the third flight with an 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 win over Catherine Fortin.

The women's squash team will now take on 21st-ranked Dickinson in its first home match of the 2024-25 campaign, on Saturday, January 25 inside the GIAC Squash Courts. The match is slated to begin at noon.
