No. 27 Women's Squash Sweeps No. 31 Bard, Falls to No. 26 St. Lawrence at LL Championships

CANTON, N.Y. - The 27th-ranked Haverford College women's squash team (5-8) went 1-1 in Round Robin action at the Liberty League Championships, advancing to Sunday's Third Place Match against No. 30 William Smith. 

No. 27 Haverford 9, No. 31 Bard 0

Against the Raptors, Haverford jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, as Laine Reshefsky won by forfeit in the ninth flight as Bard only traveled with eight available players.

Continuing the Fords' winning ways up the ladder, Matilda Chartener picked up a 11-1, 11-4, 11-2, win over Najla Nazari, in the eighth flight, followed by reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week Ofri Geva's 11-1, 11-5, 11-2, against Victoria Bagatcholon in the seventh flight.

First-year Caroline Gay picked up Haverford's fourth point by turning away Thelma Williams 11-3, 11-4, 11-3, in the sixth flight, before Zoe Liu secured the Fords victory by prevailing over Hanna Okalava 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, for Haverford's all-important fifth point.

Winning in her Liberty League championship debut was Julia Carrasco, who took down Meherin Hossain 11-3, 11-0, 11-3, in flight four, while Catherine Fortin swept Nioby Rodriguez 11-2, 11-2, 11-5, in the third flight. 

Capping of the impressive 9-0 victory was Joelle Phuah in the second flight, who shutout Thenuri DeSilva 11-1, 11-0, 11-1, and Ariana Solecki, who silenced Tarana Downer 11-2, 11-0, 11-0, for the 9-0 Haverford victory.

No. 26 St. Lawrence 6, No. 27 Haverford 3

In the late afternoon match against the host Saints, Haverford claimed three victories in a hard-fought 6-3 loss that exemplified the rigor of the Liberty League slate. 

The Fords found success in the lower half of the ladder, with dominant straight-game wins at the No. 7, 8, and 9 positions. At No. 7, reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Year Ofri Geva controlled the pace from the outset, cruising to an 11-5, 12-10, 11-2 victory over Emma Kahle. 

Matilda Chartener also put forth another composed performance at No. 8, outlasting Azaa Regmi in a tight first game before pulling away for a 13-11, 11-9, 11-3 win. Laine Reshefsky delivered Haverford's most decisive result of the day at No. 9, dictating play throughout an 11-5, 11-7, 11-3 victory over Keating Gullott.

Haverford remained competitive in several other matches, including the No. 2 spot on the ladder, where newcomer Joelle Phuah took the second game to level her match before ultimately falling in four, 11-9, 9-11, 11-4, 11-7. 

At No. 6, Caroline Gay took the opening game against Khissaiya Spencer before dropping a closely contested four-game battle, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6

Haverford now faces a rematch of last weekend's battle with No. 29 William Smith, as the Fords will take on the Herons at 10:30 a.m. to determine third place in the Liberty League at Robie Squash Center. Last Saturday, the Fords took a 9-0 victory.
