Women's tennis blanks Green Terror

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College women's tennis team rolled to a quick, 9-0, win over host McDaniel College Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

Over three doubles and six singles matches, Haverford (8-5, 7-1 CC) surrendered just two games to McDaniel (2-11, 0-8 CC).

The Fords swept through doubles with dominating wins from Katie Wettick and Katie Drooyan at No. 1, Fumiko Shogase and Helen Fisun at No. 2, and from Celia Tong and Sarah Gibson at No. 3. McDaniel gained their only game points with one each at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles.

In singles play, Fisun at No. 2 and Drooyan at No. 3 were the first to win out, by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, and clinch the victory for the Fords. The remaining matches all switched to single set pro-style with Wettick, Shogase, Gibson and Tong each winning with 8-0 scores.

The win keeps the Fords in the hunt for a Centennial playoff spot. Currently tied for second in the league with Swarthmore College, Haverford has two matches remaining — against the host Garnet from Swarthmore (8-4, 6-1 CC) this Wednesday and then against visiting, and 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (10-7, 7-0 CC) next Saturday to close out the regular season.
