CHESTERTOWN, Md.- The No. 33 Haverford College women's tennis team (10-5, 7-1 CC) picked up an 8-1 victory over Washington College (5-11, 4-4 CC) Tuesday afternoon, at the Schottland Tennis Center on the campus of Washington College. The victory has secured the Fords the number two seed in the Centennial Conference women's tennis tournament next week.

Before doubles play began, the Scarlet and Black collected three points right off the bat, as the Shorewomen forfeited the third doubles slot, as well as the the fifth and sixth singles flights, due to lack of available players for the hosts.

The team of Erika Phanord and Annie Barrett claimed an 8-2 victory against Piper Sartison and Isabella Sorhegui, while a Rachael Fitzgerald and Abhishree Menon 8-4 win over Soleil Namunyola and Eva Kading, gave the visitors a 5-0 lead headed into singles play, as a Haverford victory was assured before singles began.

Fitzgerald continued her stellar play in first singles, as the junior prevailed over Sartison 6-1, 6-2, to give the Fords a commanding 6-0 lead. Washington College earned their first point of the day, after Namunyola got past Menon 6-2, 6-4, before Phanord turned away Sorhegui 6-2, 6-3 in flight four, to extend Haverford's lead to 7-1.

In flight two, Sriya Krishnan took down Eva Kading 6-2, 7-5, to clinch an 8-1 victory for the Fords.

Haverford will close out the regular season with a match against Dickinson on Saturday, April 27, at 12 p.m., in Carlisle, Pa., before kicking off the Centennial Conference tournament at the Bettye Marshall and Norman B. Bramall Tennis Courts on Thursday, May 2.
