HAVERFORD, Pa. – A sweep in doubles action and straight set victories in singles play gave the Haverford College women's tennis team a 9-0 victory over visiting Cabrini College in a non-conference match that opened the fall season Wednesday afternoon.
Helen Fisun, at No. 2 singles, and Alex Ferrara, at No. 3, each downed their Cabrini (0-1) opponents by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores, and both also picked up winning points for the Fords (1-0) in doubles action.
Ferrara teamed with Katie Wettick at No. 1 doubles in an 8-1 victory over the Cavaliers' Katie Kennedy and Gabriela Durand, and Fisun won her pairing with Celia Tong at No. 3 by an 8-1 score over Victoria Nastala and Michelle Lettmann.
Wettick, Katie Drooyan, Kate Donches and Tong picked up the other four singles points, and the team of Drooyan and Donches added a doubles point for the Fords.
The fall season cotinues for Haverford with a Monday afternoon match against visiting Neumann College followed by the September 24-26 ITA Regional in Fredericksburg, Va.
