Women's tennis takes two of three in doubles but can't hold off Mules in singles

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins in doubles play Tuesday night at Muhlenberg College but couldn't hold off the Mules in singles play, falling to the hosts, 7-2, in a Centennial Conference contest.

The loss was only the second of the season for the Fords who fall to 10-2 overall and 4-2 within the league. Muhlenberg improves to 6-3 and 4-2, respectively.

Katie Wettick and Alex Ferrara teamed up at one-doubles for an 8-6 win, registering the Fords' first point of the match. Katie Drooyan and Kate Donches played a marathon-match in the No. 2 slot, eventually earning the victory and Haverford's second point.

Drooyan and Donches saved one match point in their 9-8 (10-8) win over the Mules' Danielle Winston and Lindsay Schmidt but the 'Berg pair did the same before succumbing to the Haverford duo.

The two doubles points would be the only ones of the night for the Fords, however, as the hosts swept all six singles spots to coast to the win.

Haverford will step out of conference play for its next match, Thursday, at Moravian College.
