Fords begin Centennial slate with a victory

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team opened Centennial Conference play with an 8-1 victory over rival Bryn Mawr College on Tuesday afternoon at the Bettye Marshall Tennis Courts.

Three wins in doubles provided the Fords (5-4, 1-0 CC) with their first three points of the afternoon against the Owls (2-7, 0-1).

Haverford continued its strong effort during singles play as Caitlin Gallagher at No. 1, Alex Ferrara at No. 2, Kate Donches at No. 3, Jordana Bloom at No. 5, and Abbey Flynn at No. 6 all registered straight-set victories. Moving to 3-1 at No. 1 singles on the year, Gallagher dropped just one game over the duration of her contest. Flynn, registering her third win of the year in the No. 6 spot and fourth overall, survived a tight first set, 7-5, before blanking Catherine Austin in set two.

The Fords welcome 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins University on Saturday for an 11 a.m. Centennial match-up before facing four-straight road contests.
