Fords close out regular season with win over Gettysburg

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team capped the Centennial Conference regular season with a 6-3 win over visiting Gettyburg College at the Bettye Marshall Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.

The Fords (11-8, 7-3 CC) head into the conference playoffs having won six of their last eight contests while the Bullets finish their season at 9-9, 4-6.

Haverford, currently ranked 20th in the Atlantic South, swept the doubles portion of the match to jump out to an early 3-0 lead in the contest.  Alex Ferrara and Caitlin Gallagher battled to an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles while the No. 2 doubles pair of Kate Donches and Abbey Flynn persevered to outlast Laura Habecker and Meghan Fornshell for a 9-7 victory.

Ferrara, Gallagher, and Donches continued their strong play at singles as each registered a straight-set win to account for Haverford's remaining points of the afternoon. Gallagher has now won nine consecutive singles contests.

Next up for the Fords is their fourth-straight appearance in the Centennial playoffs. Haverford will host Washington College in the quarterfinal round on Wednesday afternoon at a time to be determined. The Fords took down the Shorewomen, 6-3, on April 11.
