PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's Caitlin Gallagher has been named to the Philadelphia Inquirer 2013 Academic All-Area Women's Tennis Team as announced Monday by the Philadelphia-Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

Eligible athletes for the all-academic squad must hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher and must be in at least the second year at the nominating institution. Voting for the team is conducted by the sports information offices of the 28 institutions in the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

The all-academic honor caps off a banner season for Gallagher that saw the sophomore become the first Haverford women's tennis player to be voted player of the year in the Centennial Conference.

A first-team All-Centennial singles selection, Gallagher went 9-1 in conference singles action for the second consecutive season. The native of New Canaan, Conn., also excelled in doubles as she joined with junior Alex Ferrara to give the Fords a consistent threat at top-flight doubles. The second-team all-conference duo registered a 15-9 record on its way to ranking 14th in the final rankings of the doubles pairings in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region.

Gallagher, a member of the conference's academic honor roll, rose to as high as 14th in the ITA's regional singles rankings during the course of 2013 before finishing the season at 20th. She currently ranks third in career winning percentage (.791, 34-9) in program history, and has paced the Fords in singles victories in both years of her career. Finishing the season with a 19-4 record overall, Gallagher was dominant throughout her sophomore campaign as she captured 14 of her 19 victories in straight sets.

Joining Gallagher on the all-area squad were Kelly Dennis, Maria Parapouras and Nastia Sheherbakova from Chestnut Hill College as well as Penn's Sol Eskenazi. Gwynedd-Mercy's Rachel Fein repeated as performer of the year.
