HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's tennis team cruised to a 9-0 sweep of Muhlenberg on the Bettye Marshall Tennis Courts Wednesday afternoon. The Fords (4-4, 2-0 CC) have now won 17 of their first 18 singles and doubles matches in the Centennial Conference. The 9-0 score was the Fords' second sweep of the season after a 9-0 victory against Alvernia that opened the trip to Florida.

In doubles, the Fords allowed just five total games across the three matches. Greta Koch and Abby Payson teamed up at the top doubles match and came away with the most convincing win of the doubles matches, recording an 8-1 win.

Both No. 2 and No. 3 doubles saw the Fords grab 8-2 victories to clinch each of the first three points. In the second position, it was the pairing of Emily Shutman and Jane Bary who improved to 3-0 together this spring with their second straight conference win. Jessica Liu and Clara Farrehi are also now 3-0 together after their 8-2 win at third doubles.

Haverford dominated the Nos. 4-6 singles matches as that trio of players did not drop a game in their straight set wins. Bary moved to 3-2 on the year with her shutout performance at No. 4 singles. Rory Lewis saw her only action during singles on Wednesday and rolled to her second straight Centennial Conference singles win. Jessica Liu played No. 6 singles and recorded her fifth win of the year.

Payson closed the No. 3 singles match with a 6-0 win during the second set of her match. She allowed just two games in the opening set as she now has five singles wins on the year. Shutman also allowed just two games to her opponent in the top singles match, winning both sets by 6-1 scores. Koch had the closest match of the evening. She forced a 10-point tiebreak with a 6-3 win during her second set and then emerged with a hard-fought 11-9 win in that tiebreak. Her victory was the 25th of her singles career at Haverford.

As one of three teams in the Centennial Conference who currently sit at 2-0, the Fords will square off with both of those teams who are also 2-0 next week. The Fords return to action next Tuesday, April 4 with a match at Washington College. First serve in that match is scheduled for 4 p.m. Next Saturday, April 8, Haverford hosts Franklin & Marshall in a 12 p.m. start time.
