Centennial Conference release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Emily Shutman has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week. The award marks the second time this season that Haverford's captain has won this honor as the Fords have played just three matches in total.

The Haverford College women's tennis team opened its spring break trip to South Carolina with convincing 8-1 and 9-0 victories over Catholic and Gordon, respectively. Shutman assumed her usual spot at the top of the singles lineup where she was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in her matchup with Gordon after allowing just two games during her opening set against Catholic. Haverford's senior is now a team-best 7-2 in singles dating back to the fall, including a perfect 3-0 record during the spring season.

Teaming up with Lisette Pham at No. 2 doubles in those matches, that pairing was an 8-3 winner against Catholic before downing Gordon's second team by an 8-2 score. Shutman is also leading the Fords with six doubles victories in eight matches with a variety of playing partners. The spring lineup has been consistent as she and Pham are currently 3-0 together in the early part of the dual season.

Women's tennis will continue its week with in South Carolina with a match on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. against Berry College. The Fords wrap up their week down south on Friday, March 13 with matches against Rhodes (8:30 a.m.) and Lake Forest (4:30 p.m.)
