Women's Tennis Falls to Division II No. 23 Wilmington, 8-1

HAVERFORD, Pa. - In the home opener inside Alumni Field House, the Haverford College women's tennis team (2-4) was upended by the 23rd-ranked squad in Division II, Delaware's Wilmington University, as the Wildcats (13-0) grabbed an 8-1 decision. 

In doubles competition, Wilmington won all three matches against the Fords. The pairing of Fenna Swaan/Carmelle Vial took an 8-3 decision from Abbey Russano and Rachael Fitzgerald at the top doubles flight. 

Marley Trifunovic and Maelle Fontanges were 8-3 winners over Summer Williams and Abhishree Menon at the third doubles pairing while Alva Norberg and Larize Nel won their match against the Mimi Lavin/Ellie Esterowitz pairing by an 8-3 decision at the second flight to send the Wildcats to a comfortable 3-0 lead entering singles.

In singles play, Haverford was only able to secure one victory out of the six matches played. Ellie Esterowitz played an extremely strong match, losing the first set 6-3 to Jess Purdy, but fighting back to win the second set 6-3. In the decisive superbreaker, Esterowitz dominated with a score of 10-2, earning Haverford College their first point of the match.

Abbey Russano, Mimi Lavin, Rachael Fitzgerald, Summer Williams, and Sriya Krishnan all suffered losses to their respective opponents from Wilmington.
