Women's Tennis Returns to Winning Ways with Sweep of Muhlenberg, 9-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (3-5, 1-0 CC) opened Centennial Conference play and got back to winning ways indoors at the Alumni Field House, sweeping visiting Muhlenberg (2-6, 0-3 CC) by a 9-0 final.

Annie Barrett and Mimi Lavin kicked doubles off with a win against Malin Hermanson and Stefanie Wolff 8-0. The winning continued when Rachael Fitzgerald and Summer Williams took the court and defeated the Muhlenberg duo of Giulia Gerschel and Kety Gaidamashvili 8-0. Rounding out the sweep of doubles was the first-year partnership of Erika Phanord and Sriya Krishnan as they took down Sophia Framm and Caitlin Bestrycki 8-4 in what was the closest match of the day.

The Fords only needed two more victories to clinch the team win and they would get it fairly quickly. Mimi Lavin handled Giulia Gerschel in straight sets, winning 6-2 and then 6-0 as her stellar singles play this season continued. Ellie Esterowitz took the honors of clinching the team win with the win over Sophia Framm 6-0, 6-0.

Play continued with Erika Phanord defeating Caitlin Bestrycki 6-0, 6-1 before Abbey Russano bounced back from her singles defeat last week to defeat Kety Gaidamashvili convincingly in straight sets (6-1, 6-0), leaving the rest of the action to Barrett and Abhishree Menon.

Barrett won in straight sets against Stefanie Wolff (MUHL) 6-0, 6-0 before Abhishree Menon closed the day with a victory against Muhlenberg's Hermanson 6-0, 6-0.

Haverford return to action on Tuesday, March 28 when they head to Collegeville to continue Centennial Conference play against Ursinus. The first serve is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
