Women's Tennis Sweeps Past Ursinus, 9-0

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team (4-5, 2-0 CC) won its first conference road test at Ursinus (8-5, 0-3 CC) on Tuesday afternoon, putting forth a dominating performance to pull away 9-0 at the Ursinus Tennis Courts.

Haverford started strong in doubles competition, winning all three matches in convincing fashion. Abbey Russano and Abhishree Menon won 8-0 at second doubles to set the tone early before Ellie Esterowitz and Mimi Lavin won 8-1 at first doubles. The duo of Annie Barrett and Sriya Krishnan secured the doubles sweep with a resounding 8-4 victory at the third doubles pairing, as Haverford went into singles play up 3-0.

Moving swiftly into singles play, Haverford continued to overwhelm their opponents from Ursinus. Annie Barrett continued a solid season at the sixth flight with her 6-0, 6-1 victory over Fiona Finnerty. Barrett has not dropped a match this season as she is 4-0 in singles and 6-0 in doubles play so far in 2022-23. The next match to finish was Erika Phanord allowing just one game at the third flight in a 6-0, 6-1 triumph, clinching the overall team match for the Fords with the win. 

Sriya Krishnan and Abhishree Menon then both won 6-3, 6-0 at fourth and fifth singles, respectively. Menon is undefeated in singles play so far this year. Summer Williams followed suit with a 6-3, 6-3 win at second singles, dispatching Claire Burke, and Rachael Fitzgerald earned the final point in singles with a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Allie Armour to secure the 9-0 sweep.

Haverford's dominant performance has certainly caught the attention of the regional rankings, as the Fords are ranked ninth in the Atlantic South region in the latest poll release. Women's Tennis is now 39-2 all-time against Ursinus.

Haverford now returns to action on Saturday with a road matchup at Gettysburg. The contest with the Bullets is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
