Volleyball Downed 3-0 By Johns Hopkins

BALTIMORE – Playing in its second Centennial Conference match of the season, the Haverford volleyball team was defeated by Johns Hopkins, 3-0. The set scores for the match were 12-25, 16-25 and 13-25. The Fords struggled for consistency as the Blue Jays outhit them .329 to .075 in the match. Haverford now sits at 6-4 (0-2 Centennial) after the loss while Johns Hopkins is now 6-3 (1-0 Centennial) after the win in the conference home opener.

The Fords fell behind 11-5 in the first set but were able to cut the advantage to just 15-9 as Julia Gallagher-Teske and Maddie Becker registered back-to-back kills behind Kendall Robison serves. From the 15-9 mark, the Blue Jays went on a 10-3 run to seal the set as Erica Johnston and contributed a block and a kill to close out the Fords in set one.

In the second set, Hopkins again started fast, to the tune of a 13-4 advantage. The Fords cut the score to 14-7 with Kaylynn Mayo, Maddie Becker and Gallagher-Teske contributing kills. A Gallagher-Teske block gave the Fords just an 18-11 deficit, but the Blue Jays were able to close out set two with a 7-5 stretch.

The third set started as the most competitive of the night for the Fords, as Haverford battled to a 10-10 tie in the early goings. A 12-1 run buried the Fords hopes of taking the set, however, as Genevieve Thomas went on a serving run that included four Haverford errors.

The Fords were paced by Natalie Pisch who registered six kills on 20 total swings. Zoe Wong has 12 assists while Matsumura and Becker each chipped in six digs. Elizabeth Wuerstle led the way for Johns Hopkins with 10 kills on 17 swings while Sarah Elnozahy had 29 assists. Ester Hong made 10 digs.

Haverford now heads to the Stockton Classic in Galloway, N.J., the tournament will span two days (Saturday and Sunday) and see the Fords face off with No. 10 Eastern, No. 22 Mary Washington and the host Osprey.
