Senior Day Sweep! Volleyball Turns Away Green Terror, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College volleyball team wrapped up its 2024 regular-season home slate with a decisive 3-0 sweep of McDaniel, winning by set scores of 25-14, 25-7, and 25-19 inside Gooding Arena on Saturday afternoon. This victory improved Haverford's record to 11-12 overall and 4-4 in conference play, while McDaniel fell to 10-11 and remains winless in Centennial Conference action (0-8).

Before the match, Haverford honored its senior class: Téa Kuzbari, Caroline Lucas, and Taylor Jones. Over their four years, this Class of 2025 has made a remarkable impact, helping lead the Fords to 58 wins, two Centennial Conference Tournament appearances, and a memorable NCAA Tournament run in 2021 that reached the second round.

Jones led the way Saturday with 10 kills and three blocks, while Eliana Brown and Gia Frank each contributed nine kills. Brown also recorded three service aces. Kayla Chu (17 assists) and Cameryn DeBlecourt (13 assists) combined for 30 of Haverford's 43 assists.

The Fords came out strong for their seniors, quickly taking control against the Green Terror. McDaniel kept things close early, within three points at 15-12 after a kill from Angalyn Strouse. However, the Fords soon pulled away, benefiting from a kill by Moord and back-to-back McDaniel errors that led to a McDaniel timeout with Haverford up by eight. The lead extended to 22-13 following a service ace from DeBlecourt, and two consecutive kills from Frank set up a service ace by Dasha Igonin to close the first set at 25-14.

Haverford's dominance continued into the second set, where the Fords posted an impressive .571 hitting percentage. Jones and Fiona Moord led the offense in the frame, piling up kills as Haverford raced to an early lead and forced a McDaniel timeout at 13-3. The Fords maintained their momentum, extending their advantage to 20-5 and ultimately securing a commanding 25-7 set win.

McDaniel mounted its strongest challenge in the third set. The teams traded points early before a kill by Izabela Potocnjak put the Fords up 11-7. McDaniel rallied, closing to within one after a block from Abigayle Bowley and a Haverford attack error brought the score within just one at 13-12. However, Haverford responded, stretching its lead to 16-12 with a Maggie Turner kill and a service ace from DeBlecourt. After another McDaniel timeout at 20-15, the Fords closed out the set with kills from Frank and Jones, reaching match point at 24-18 before Lucas sealed the victory at 25-19.

For McDaniel, Kailey Young led with seven kills, while Katharine Taveras contributed 11 assists, and libero Samantha Fadel tallied 14 digs.

Haverford now heads back on the road for a pivotal week of Centennial Conference action, beginning with a matchup at Muhlenberg on Wednesday, November 6 (7 p.m.) in a match with major postseason implications. The Fords will then conclude the regular season at Swarthmore on Saturday, November 9 (1 p.m.) in the annual Hood Trophy rivalry series.
