Volleyball Sweeps Past Dickinson, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College volleyball team (9-7, 3-2 CC) notched a sweep of visiting Dickinson (9-6, 3-2 CC) on Saturday inside Gooding '84 Arena, using a 12-1 edge in service aces to pull away from the Red Devils. Set scores for the matchup were 25-18, 25-15, 25-22.

Eliana Brown and Kendall Otridge each had nine kills, while Izabela Potocnjak added eight. Cameryn DeBlecourt (16 assists) and Gabrielle Fontanilla (13 assists) were integral to the passing game while three Fords had double-digit digs, paced by 16 from Juliet Young. The blocking effort saw Jadyn Elliott with three total blocks to lead Haverford.

The first set saw the Fords shake off an early Dickinson rally to take a 12-7 lead following a kill from Eliana Brown, but Dickinson had a brief spurt to pull back within three at 15-12. Eventually, Tea Kuzbari helped the Fords right the ship from the service line, taking a 20-13 lead and prompting another Dickinson timeout as Elliott and Potocnjak grabbed kills in that stretch. A service ace from DeBlecourt put the Fords ahead 23-15, and consecutive kills from Jones and Otridge delivered set one to the Fords.

In the second, Haverford sprinted out to a 19-9 lead with a sustained run with DeBlecourt at the service line. That run included kills from Brown and Jones as well back-to-back service aces from DeBlecourt. Haverford went ahead 22-10 on another service ace, this time from Brown, and closed out the set with kills from Otridge and Potocnjak.

The third set saw Dickinson hang around for the majority of the set, with the two teams trading points in the early goings. The sides had a difficult time gaining separation, with Haverford taking a 20-18 lead behind back-to-back kills from Brown.

A strong blocking effort from Dickinson got the Red Devils back into the contest, as Alexa Barowski and Mathilde Verbitsky tied things at 20-20, but the Fords used a pair of kills from Otridge to take a 23-21 lead, prompting a Dickinson timeout.  A pair of errors down the stretch by the Red Devils then handed the Fords the fourth set at 25-22.

For Dickinson, Anne Marie Patterson (19 digs) and Avery Lewis (11 digs) were integral defensively , while Camile Dofiles and Jordan Shucker each tallied double-digit assist tallies. Emma Lange had four total blocks to go with six kills in a well-rounded effort.

Haverford improves to 27-7 all-time in the series with Dickinson, as the Fords have logged five consecutive wins in the series. The victory was the 99th of Head Coach Drew Hargrave's career.

The Centennial Conference season rolls on Wednesday, with the Fords taking on Muhlenberg at 7 p.m. inside Gooding Arena.
