HAVERFORD, Pa. — The Haverford College volleyball team has been projected to finish fifth in the Centennial Conference, according to the 2024 preseason coaches' poll released by the conference office on Thursday morning.

Defending Centennial Conference champion Johns Hopkins was voted first, receiving 100 total points and all but one first-place vote. Franklin & Marshall followed in second place with 84 points. The remaining first-place vote went to Gettysburg, which tied with Swarthmore for third place, both earning 81 points. The Fords were ranked fifth with 60 points, rounding out the top five in the preseason poll.

Muhlenberg was selected sixth with 51 points, while Dickinson (45 points) and Ursinus (44 points) were voted seventh and eighth, respectively. Washington College (ninth, 26 points), McDaniel (10th, 22 points), and Bryn Mawr (11th, 11 points) completed the remainder of the poll.

The Scarlet and Black aim to build upon their 2023 season, which saw the Fords reach the Centennial Conference tournament for the 19th time in 23 years. The 2024 Haverford roster features two players who earned All-Centennial Conference honors in 2023: Kira Chaney and Taylor Jones.

Chaney, the 2023 Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year, returns for her sophomore season after leading the team in total attacks, aces, and points per set. The outside hitter ranked 10th in the conference with 200 kills in just 73 sets and totaled 40 service aces, placing her seventh in the conference.

Jones, who earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in 2023, led the Centennial and ranked 12th in the nation with a .387 hitting percentage. The middle hitter also ranked fourth in the conference in total attacks and led the team in kills.

Volleyball will open its 2024 campaign with the Haverford Invitational on Friday, August 30, and Saturday, August 31. The Fords will face Lebanon Valley at 3 p.m. and Wheaton (Mass.) at 7 p.m. on August 30, followed by matches against Stockton (11 a.m.) and Wheaton (Mass.) (1 p.m.) on August 31.
