PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College's Tommy Bergjans, Casey Fox and Kevin Goff (pictured, left to right) have been voted onto the Philadelphia Inquirer's 2013 Academic All-Area baseball Team, as released Wednesday by the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA).

In order to be eligible for academic all-area, an athlete must be in at least his second year at the institution and own a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or higher. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the 28 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Bergjans, a sophomore, recently picked up a second-team All-American nod from D3baseball.com, which followed the Centennial Conference's release of its all-conference team on which Bergjans earned first-team and pitcher of the year honors.

Both Bergjans and Fox, also a sophomore, earned all-region honors from D3Baseball.com and the American Baseball Coaches Association. Fox was a first-team all-conference selection for the second straight year.

A senior relief pitcher, Goff learned in early-May that he was the recipient of a 2013 Fulbright Scholarship. The chemistry major will spend the next year working in the neuroscience lab at the University of Bergen in Norway.

All three helped lead the Fords' baseball team into the 2013 conference tournament.

Bergjans led the team with a 7-1 record on the hill and posted a 1.81 earned run average which was second-lowest in the league. He topped the Centennial by fanning 89 batters, setting a single-season program mark for Haverford. His average of 12.29 strikeouts per nine innings was also the best in the Centennial.

After only two seasons in the program Bergjans is fifth in strikeouts (167) and 10th in wins (13). His 18-strikeout performance against visiting Washington College in April broke the previous single-game record of 15, which he set last season during his freshman campaign.

Fox, the Fords' third baseman, was the only underclassman on the Centennial's first-team all-conference squad this spring. In 2012 his first-team selection was just the fifth time in conference history a freshman earned top-of-the-league honors.

With a .378 batting average Fox led the Haverford attack. He also paced the team in slugging percentage (.564), hits (59), RBIs (38), doubles (8), triples (3), home runs (5) and total bases (88). He was second on the team in runs scored (43) and stolen bases (23) and completed the season without hitting into a double-play.

On the mound Fox registered a 3-0 record in four starts, posting a 1.40 ERA while striking out 18 and walking only five over 25 and two-thirds innings.

Goff earned a save in each of the Fords' last four wins of the season. His seven saves set a single-season program record. He posted a 1-1 mark and 3.23 ERA over 12 appearances, three starts and 30.2 innings. Goff limited opposing batters to just a .202 average while striking out 16 and walking nine.
