HAVERFORD, Pa. - Against Amwell Valley on Sunday, the Haverford cricket team set a new record in the second match of the fall season. Haverford batted first and scored 304 runs in 30 overs, the highest score in the college's long history.
Captain Sidd Phatak scored a magnificent 100 runs and retired himself to allow other team members to get some match practice. His opening partnership with Mohanish Bajaj, who scored 37 of 84 runs, was a delight to watch. Later good innings from Nihaal Kochar (22), Deep Patel (34), Sanil Kagalwala (37), Agastya Singh (24), Leo Gruenstein (19 not out), and Aniketh Rao (8 not out) took the score to 304 in 30 overs, setting a new record for Haverford College.
In reply, Amwell Valley Cricket Club scored 165 runs in the allotted 30 overs, giving Haverford a comfortable victory by 139 runs. Kishoor was the only standout for Amwell Valley, with a solid inning of 46 retired.
Sidd Phatak also excelled with the new ball, taking three wickets for 27, earning him the Man of the Match award.
With this commanding all-around performance, the Haverford Cricket team has set a new standard for success as the Fords will look to take that momentum into a packed weekend that features matchups against Penn (Sept. 21) and British Officers (Sept. 22) on Cope Field. Each match will begin at noon.
