Men's Soccer Takes Down Catholic, 3-0

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team notched its eighth straight victory in its final non-conference contest of the regular season with a 3-0 win against Catholic on Wednesday evening. The Fords (10-3) got a goal in the first half from Will Corkery before Sam Yarosh and Brady Seitz capped the scoring with goals in the second half against the visiting Cardinals (5-8-1).

Haverford's unbeaten and untied stretch is now tied for the fifth longest such streak in program history. The Fords also won eight straight matches in 2011 during head coach Shane Rineer's first year at the helm of the program. The Fords' longest stretches of going unbeaten and untied have been four separate 10 game streaks, the most recent of which came during the 1992 season.

For the second straight match, the game-winning goal came off the foot of Corkery. Much like his game-winning goal just three days ago, he cracked the scoreboard on a direct kick placed just outside of the 18. Corkery's fourth goal of the season was his third game-winning goal overall this year. Each of his three game-winning efforts have come in the last five matches of the current winning streak.

In spite of a 12-5 edge in shots during the first 45 minutes of play, Haverford had just the one goal advantage to show on the scoreboard. Nevertheless, Haverford turned to Yarosh just over eight minutes into the second half to give the offense another spark. Tejan Walcott's pass put Yarosh in perfect position at the top of the 18. Yarosh's 12th goal of the season, a Centennial Conference best, ranks him 12th among all players in Division III for the year. Walcott's assist was his second of the year.

Yarosh's goal was the 28th of his Haverford career. The Fords' senior captain moved into 13th place in the school's record book with his latest goal. His single season goal total of 12 moves him into 20th place in school history.

Seitz capped Haverford's scoring with the sixth goal of his senior campaign. Seitz's goal came in unassisted fashion as he drove his defender near the end line before creating just enough separation to beat the keeper on the hard angle shot. Seitz's goal was the 27th of his career with the Fords.

Haverford finished with a commanding 26-9 edge in shots for the match. Walcott took a match-high seven of those attempts, including six shots on goal. Seitz finished with five shots, while a total of 11 different players registered a shot in the contest.

The Fords' team shutout came with a trio of effort. Sam Miller got the start in net and made three saves during his 64:48 of playing time to notch his 10th victory of the season. Chris Gibson played the next 14:44 in goal and was called on for one save. Jeremy Astesano, making his collegiate debut, finished the final 10:28 of game action and went untested during that time.

Men's soccer will resume Centennial Conference play with the third leg of its current home stand this Saturday when Muhlenberg comes to campus for a rematch of last year's Centennial Conference Championship. Saturday's contest is scheduled to get underway at 3:30 p.m. and will be played as a doubleheader with the women's team taking on Johns Hopkins at 1 p.m.
