HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team (2-8-4) secured its second win of the season, defeating Farmingdale State (7-6-3) by a 1-0 margin in the final non-conference match of the season on a windy Wednesday afternoon at historic Walton Field.
The first half action came late, with a key moment in the 40th minute when Jackson Simon was forced to parry away a driven shot by Daniel Rivas. Just a minute later, the Fords capitalized on a golden opportunity through Aidan Lacy.
The Scarlet and Black exploited the Rams' high defensive line as Conrad Coyanda-Parkzes threaded a long through pass behind the pressing defense. Lacy ran onto the ball and charged toward the box, calmly slotting a shot past Farmingdale State's keeper, Jabari Dennis, to give Haverford a 1-0 lead just before halftime.
The second half was dominated by Haverford, as the Fords fired 10 shots compared to just one from the Rams. Farmingdale State's lone chance in the frame came in the 83rd minute from Sebastian Monroy, but Simon made a crucial save to preserve the lead.
The great defensive play by the Fords stood tall, as time eventually ran out on Farmingdale State, with the Scarlet and Black claiming the 1-0 shutout.
Gabe Knopf and Aidan Lacy paved the way for the Scarlet and Black, putting up three shots each, while Simon made two stops between the posts, to pick up his second shutout of the season. In total, the Fords outshot the Rams 14-3 on Wednesday.
Men's Soccer will hit the road for its next matchup, jumping right back into Centennial Conference play as Haverford will travel to Westminster, Md. to take on the McDaniel Green Terror on Saturday, October 19. The contest at the Green Terror Soccer Complex will begin at 12 p.m.
