Season Review: Men's Soccer Repeats as Centennial Conference Champions

Season Review: Men's Soccer Repeats as Centennial Conference Champions

Signature Wins: The Haverford College men's soccer team became the first team in Centennial Conference history to both host and win the conference title in back-to-back seasons. To claim its second consecutive conference crown, Haverford had to avenge its only Centennial Conference defeat in the past two seasons. The Fords did just that with a 2-1 victory against Franklin & Marshall on Walton Field.

Centennial Conference Rookie of the Year Nick Jannelli got the Fords on the board with his goal in the 28th minute of play. Just over five minutes later, Max Krieg scored his first goal of the season with what turned out to be the game-winning tally. The Diplomats got one of those goals back in the second half but two saves from Jeremy Astesano thwarted any further comeback from Franklin & Marshall. Solidifying the defense all year long, first-team All-Centennial Conference selection Maclyn Willigan was honored as the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP.

With its third Centennial Conference Championship in program history – all of which have come in the past five seasons – the Fords advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the sixth time in school history. The Fords hosted the NCAA Regional round on Walton Field before falling in penalty kicks during the second round. Haverford was making back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in school history.
