Three Named All-Region for Men's Soccer

NSCAA All-Region Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team tied a program record with three selections to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-Mid-Atlantic Region team. The Fords' three nominees tie the program mark set a season ago. Haverford has now had one all-region selection in each of the past five seasons. Each of Haverford's three selections in 2016 were first time recipients of this recognition.

Maclyn Willigan backed up his first-team All-Centennial Conference honors with first-team all-region recognition. The senior co-captain will graduate as a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection. Willigan started 72 of his 73 games over his four-year career at Haverford. He anchored a defense that posted seven shutouts this season and was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week on September 26 of this season.

Willigan also scored the game-winning goal against Merchant Marine in the NCAA Tournament to finish his career with five goals. The center-back also assisted on two goals, helping to set up scoring chances in 1-0 wins over Johns Hopkins and Muhlenberg during the regular season. He was also named the Centennial Conference Tournament MVP after the Fords' second consecutive championship season.

Dorian Wirz also earned first-team All-Centennial Conference recognition and was recently honored as a second-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region pick. Like Willigan, Wirz is also a two-time All-Centennial Conference selection. Playing in the midfield, Wirz played in 18 games and started 10 contest for the Fords. He led the team with four assists on the season with three of those helpers coming during the Centennial Conference regular season slate to help the Fords host the conference tournament on Walton Field for the third time in the past four seasons. Wirz also scored in Haverford's NCAA Tournament win against Merchant Marine as the team scored an NCAA program-record five goals in that contest

Ben Field was named a third-team All-Mid-Atlantic Region selection to go along with his second-team All-Centennial Conference accolade. During his junior season, Field was one of six players who started all 21 games for the Fords. He tied Wirz for the team lead with four assists and ranked second on the squad with six goals and 16 points. Field started the season with a two goal and one assist effort in the win against Western New England. He also scored against Lycoming, Stockton, Muhlenberg, and Merchant Marine during the NCAA Tournament.

Each of Haverford's all-region selections were also named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll. During the 2016 season, Haverford became the first men's soccer team in Centennial Conference history to host the conference tournament and win the conference title in back-to-back seasons. The Fords also hosted the NCAA Regional Round on Walton Field for the second straight year. Haverford advanced to the second round with a 5-1 win against Merchant Marine before falling penalty kicks.
