2016 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team

Haverford, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team had three players named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Team. The teams are voted on by the sports information offices of the 29 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The Fords' three selections represent the most in one season in program history.

Will Corkery earned inclusion on the team for the second straight season. A D3Soccer. All-American last year, the Fords' captain was a second-team All-Centennial Conference pick this year. Despite being limited to 11 games, Corkery tied for the team lead with four assists and tied for third on the team with three goals. Corkery graduates from Haverford as a three-time representative on the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and all-conference teams.

Co-captain Maclyn Willigan earned a spot on the team after earning first-team All-Centennial Conference and first-team All-Mideast Region honors in 2016. He was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week and Centennial Conference Tournament MVP after the Fords' repeated their championship season on Walton Field. He led the Haverford defense to seven shutouts and scored the game-winning goal in the NCAA Tournament victory over Merchant Marine. Willigan finishes his career with 72 starts in 73 career games.

Dorian Wirz was named to the team after he earned first-team All-Centennial Conference recognition to go along with second-team all-region honors. Wirz tied for the team lead with four assists as he played in 18 games, making 10 starts in the midfield. Each of his four assists came in victories, while he too scored in the win against Merchant Marine. Wirz, the Archibald MacIntosh Award recipient for his class, has twice been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll and was the conference's rookie of the year in his freshman season.

Haverford's trio of selections represent the most of any school in the Philadelphia Area. They are joined on the team by Arcadia's Bradley McKim, Immaculata's Pat Friend, Joe Lubonski and Alex Noel, West Chester's Connor Greiss and Giovanni Mowery, and Temple's Joonas Jokinen and Eastern's Jadon Ramsing.
