HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's soccer team got a pair of goals from Nick Jannelli to down visiting Wesleyan by a 2-1 score during the opening day of the Jimmy Mills Classic. Jannelli opened the scoring in the 54th minute and scored the game-winner just 4:06 into the first overtime session to give the Fords (2-0) a thrilling victory.

The match started with a very even opening 45 minutes as the Cardinals (0-2) held a slight 5-3 edge in shots. However, the Fords turned up the intensity right from the outset of the second half and held a 12-5 shots advantage from that point on.

Haverford had the first great chance of the game when Michael Carr pushed a shot just to the right of the far post over a minute into the second half. Nevertheless, it would not be much longer until the Fords broke the scoreless tie as the Wesleyan goalie was whistled for a foul inside the 18 during the 54th minute. Jannelli promptly stepped up and delivered the sixth penalty kick goal of his career in as many chances to give his side a 1-0 advantage. Just moments later, Peter Baroff found himself loose in front of net, but a nice save from the Wesleyan keeper kept the game at a single goal deficit.

The Cardinals eventually tied the game with 10:36 to play in regulation time as Alec Haas collected the possession off of a scramble inside the box to level the score at one. During the overtime session, Haverford goalie Michael Iacono was called on to make one save before Jannelli was back on the attack just moments later. He slotted a nice pass from Max Krieg into the corner of the goal for his third tally of the season. The junior now has 24 career goals. Krieg was credited with his first career assist as now all of his offensive points during his career have come on game-winning goals.

The Fords finished the match with a 15-10 advantage in shots. Iacono made four saves while his Wesleyan counterpart made six saves in net. The Cardinals also cleared one shot off of the end line just seven minutes after Jannelli put Haverford up 1-0. Jannelli finished the contest with six shots, accounting for five of his team's nine shots on goal. Noah Schwab also had two shots on the afternoon, putting one attempt on frame.
