HAVERFORD, Pa. – Despite outshooting Wilkes by a 32-14 margin, the Haverford College men's soccer team was not able to crack the Colonels defense and was forced to settle for a scoreless draw Saturday afternoon on Walton Field. Haverford also held a 7-3 edge in corner kicks, but 10 saves from the Wilkes' goalie salvaged a draw for the visitors.

The Fords had their most dominant half of the afternoon right from the start as they took 13 shots while limiting the Colonels to just one attempt over the first 45 minutes. Haverford also had the only two corner kick attempts of the opening half, but four saves in the half prevented the Fords from taking a lead into the halftime break.

Haverford also recorded 13 shots during the second half of action. Wilkes picked up its offensive intensity with 11 attempts of its own during that time. The Colonels again made four saves during the second half. Possibly Haverford's best chance for the game-winning goal came on a corner kick with 10 seconds to play, but a header traveled just wide of the far post and harmlessly out of play.

Wilkes had a similar scoring chance during the early minutes of the first overtime, but also saw its header miss the intended target. Earlier in the contest, the Colonels had a chance with the goalie out of the net to try and win a ball but Mattieu Maciejewski was in position to collect the possession before it rolled into the back of the net. Haverford held a 6-2 combined advantage in shots during the overtime periods, but shots on goal from Nick Jannelli and Paul-Andre Coulibaly were saved during the 102nd and 105th minutes of play.

Michael Iacono and Dylan Ioffreda combined for the shutout. Iacono got the start and made one save during his 52-plus minutes in net. Ioffreda made two more saves over the final 57-plus minutes of action.

Men's soccer will close its stretch of five straight home matches to open the 2019 season when it hosts Rowan this coming Wednesday in a 4:30 p.m. start. That match will be the final tune-up before Centennial Conference action gets underway next Saturday at Johns Hopkins.
